Robert Murphy

Robert was born in the small Central California town of Ceres, where life revolved around family spread across the West Coast. Growing up in the heart of the state, he enjoyed exploring California’s cultural and natural landmarks—from San Francisco and Yosemite to Los Angeles and Sacramento. “I love to drive,” he says, “mostly to museums and points of interest,” and many of his formative journeys were short road trips packed with discovery.

One memorable drive east over Sonora Pass and through Reno—taken between university stints—proved pivotal. “The Sierra on a summer night can change the way you think,” he reflects. “Give you direction.” That moment of clarity led him to leave UC Santa Cruz, where he’d studied Art History, and complete his degree in art at Stanislaus State University, where he found better instruction and stronger career preparation.

Robert’s career has spanned galleries, corporate offices, and residential design—where he served as a project manager on a long-term build near Donner Pass. When that work paused, he accepted what he thought would be a short-term role with Reno’s oldest print company, A. Carlisle & Co. A decade later, he calls Reno home. “It’s as comfortable to me now as Ceres was growing up,” he says. “Full of amazing people and a rich creative spirit.”

Now, with Reno Type, following its acquisition of A. Carlisle, Robert continues to serve the community he’s come to love—one that blends simplicity, creativity, and the beauty of the Sierra.

What makes Robert the Reno type?

I look forward to waking up in this place, meeting these people and making what they need off a press the very best it can be with the new team I have the good fortune to join. A new opportunity to continue in service to this community is the path forward. Another reset accomplished.
